It’s clear that Reddit employees are encouraged to “fly their freak flag.” What builds belonging in the workplaceįrom studying more than 100 million survey responses over 28 years and the practices of the Best Workplaces™, we know there are three experiences that help employees feel like they belong. “Interactions between employees are intentional and respectful, there is a sense of community and an effort to make everyone feel like they belong.” “There is a sense of community and an effort to make everyone feel like they belong.” “Internally, there is a real sense that you can be quirky, weird, individual self.” Reddit values people who are different, and at work, we are rewarded for it.” “My colleagues are the type of open-minded, funny, fun, collaborative, real people with whom I want to work. “Generally, like the product itself, everyone is encouraged to be themselves.” When asked what makes their company culture unique, Reddit ’s employees often mentioned this feeling of belonging. When individuals can bring their authentic selves to work and feel a part of the team, they feel accepted for who they are and are willing to share their unique perspectives.Īuthentic belonging is created when employees are treated as “insiders” and are encouraged to retain uniqueness within their work group. You’ve probably heard about diversity and inclusion before, but authentic belonging is the critical companion to fully realizing D&I’s potential. It’s this belonging that earned them top marks from their employees - and in turn, a place on the 2020 Best Workplaces for Millennials™ list. We studied Reddit’s employee survey responses to find why and one reason the company stands out is for how it creates an authentic sense of belonging for its millennial employees. average is just 59%, based on our survey of the U.S. Millennials love working at Reddit – 95% of employees say it’s a great place to work (FYI: the U.S. I assume it is somewhat better on windows machines, but I gotta say the mac client is not promising. Why millennials upvote Reddit as a great place to belong. So overall teams fails at delivering messages and silently fails completely which is a pretty fundamental problem for me. As far as I can tell when this happens I am properly logged in. I'm not sure if this is more auth issues or if it is unrelated. I suspect if it is an issue with our config it is obscure enough it is hard to even tell what the problem is.Īlso even when it is logged in half the time it fails to alert me anywhere that I have a new teams message (iphone and mac desktop client). So this could be a configuration issue at my company, but despite significant poking no one in IT has fixed it. I suspect the auth failures have something to do with the authentication setup at my company which lets you not use 2 factor when on local network or VPN, but does require it when not on VPN. Then I plug in the password again and sometimes it works, but usually I have to restart it completely to log back in. WTF did you just have me enter my password into a window that cannot be used? I go to sign in with the window it helpfully hides behind all other windows and it says 'sign in expired'. It randomly logs me out and doesn't mention it. So, basically: How do other messaging apps compare to Slack? What do they do better? What features are game-changers for them/you? I hear Teams being thrown around a lot these days. For personal use I'm on Signal and Discord, so I'm not terribly aware of other business platforms. I know it stole threading and auto-vacation features from Twist years ago, to its benefit (while taking 6 years to push a fucking dark mode for whatever reason). We use and write those. Not really clear on how we're going to integrate more closely than that.īut aside from that, it spurred discussion of what else Slack could do, what other messaging apps can do. The announcer flat out admitted that we're aware this is just a tactic to create "stickiness" with their platform which lead to a collective facepalm on the one hand and confusion as to what this will actually do for us on the other. So our company just announced that we're bringing in Slack devs to better integrate with their app.
